From Long Beach, California The Messenger excites the So-Cal soul scene with a classic flare of 70’s soul and beyond. Led by Johnny Rico, Ray Steward, Fernanda Valdivia, and Alex Blanco the group shares their eclectic range of talent with chemistry in all parts performing, writing, recording, and more. Their debut single “Give Me Back Your Heart” hits listener’s with driving instrumentation, lush harmonies, and classic lyrics about love and all the troubles that comes with it, recorded in 2025 by Emanuel Cazares (aka. Cafe Canela) the track has its own place in contemporary soul sounds. Following up with “Be My Lover” a bad classic soul track with a message of being one with another, both tracks hold a conversation between a women and man a refreshing addition to a genre people call “Souldies.” The band plans on recording more tracks in 2026 with a range of new sounds the people in tune are sure to enjoy.
